ABOUT THE JOB:

This is an exciting time to join the department as we work to deliver on the Government’s ambitions to build back better, faster, and greener. 

Working as part of a cross-cutting team, you will lead four high-priority strands of work across the minerals and waste portfolio: 

  • Management of the supply of primary building materials 
  • Policy oversight of hydrocarbon planning (including shale and coal) 
  • Departmental responsibility for critical minerals 
  • Stewardship of the waste planning system 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

As a senior, technical policy advisor, you will: 

  • Oversee the stewardship and management of the supply of minerals to support the delivery of infrastructure and wider development, overseeing the work of the Aggregate Working Parties and ensuring the ongoing performance of this vital element of infrastructure delivery.  
  • Lead the department’s relationship with BEIS, Cabinet Office, FCDO, and DIT on the delivery of the Government’s Critical Mineral Strategy.  
  • Provide policy advice across the breadth of hydrocarbon planning policy, advising Ministers on the policy landscape, supporting casework, and active litigation.  
  • On the department’s policy portfolio in respect of waste planning policy including oversight of the National Planning Policy for Waste as well as managing the relationship across government and with external stakeholders.
